Where are you now?
The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, studying Joint Honours Finance and Economics.
How, if at all, did the Empire help you get there?
Empire Mock Trial was the most original thing in my personal statement, and having applied to a course which has a 10:1 entry rate, it was crucial that I had something which set me apart from others. I have no doubt that [Empire] made me unique compared to other applicants. My experience at Empire highlighted my communication and inter-personal skills, and of course, my ability to perform well under pressure!
What’s your favourite Empire moment?
Without a doubt, being named as International Champions in 2011 (our first year at Empire) was my favourite moment. We never in a million years thought we would do so well, and it was a huge shock to the whole team when our name was called out! I equally loved the opening ceremonies at both Empire V and VI; it was at that point, especially Empire V, that I realise how much of an achievement it was to have made it to Empire. I’ll never forget standing in the Opening Ceremony hearing the teams singing the National Anthem of each representative country thinking, “Wow, this is something else!” In all honesty, I enjoyed everything to do with Empire and getting to see the sights of New York such as the Empire State Building and Times Square, despite getting caught in Hurricane Sandy in 2012!
How would you describe the Empire to someone that has never been?
Empire is crazy, exciting, and fun. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity! It’s like nothing you’ve ever done before; you have the chance to meet people from across the globe, all sharing in a love of Mock Trial. Empire will give you memories you will never forget, and if you have the opportunity to take part in it, you won’t regret going!
