Blue Shirts

Blue Shirts play a vital role in delivering the Empire experience to students across our three competitions: Empire Atlanta, Empire New York, and Empire San Francisco. Donning our signature Empirion blue, these young men and women serve as the “face” of Empire during competition weekends, providing Empire’s students with both energy and guidance.  From just a few days of volunteering, Blue Shirts make countless new friends and memories while learning about the value of public service.

But don’t take our word for it!  Watch a short video below to hear directly from Blue Shirts.

Job Perks

  • Accommodation for an average of 3 nights (check-in Friday, checkout Monday).
    • Lodging is provided on a first-come first-serve basis;
    • Some Blue Shirts volunteer on the days before and after Empire – We call these days ‘shoulder days’ (the preceding Wednesday and Thursday, and the following Monday and Tuesday). We love when Blue Shirts help with setup and breakdown of the competition, but we have limited hotel availability, especially in New York.
    • If you request lodging on a shoulder night, and we approve your request, you will be asked to volunteer for most of the shoulder day. Volunteers that are interested in extending their trip to sightsee are encouraged to either secure accommodations elsewhere (e.g. Air BnB) or may pay for their share of their hotel room on day(s) in which they wish to not volunteer for Empire.
  • Lunch and dinner on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the competition;
  • A volunteer appreciation package.

Blue Shirt volunteers are needed at all three competitions, and are asked to commit to at least one full day of service (7am – 7pm). Some days are longer and will require volunteers until approximately 12:00am. Candidates are asked to submit an application below. You can apply to volunteer at one Empire program or multiple.

Complete the online application form and provide us with the contact information for a reference, who will automatically be contacted by Empire (new applicants only). If accepted, you will be asked to provide your tentative competition availability.
