O Canada! Our neighbors from North of the Border joined the Empire family in 2010, and they’ve come back every year since. In addition to being equipped for the cold weather (a New York autumn is like spring to them), they come to the Empire enthusiastic and patriotic! Just last year, one Canadian group could be spotted singing their country’s national anthem in the hotel lounge.
Our Canadian representatives hail from Ontario. The Ontario Bar Association runs an annual tournament in which schools from across the province compete. Currently, Canada does not have a national mock trial program, nor do other provinces host organized mock trial tournaments. If you are a Canadian school located outside of Ontario, and you’re interested in joining the Empire family, please let us know.
All international schools that apply and are accepted to an Empire program receive at least three video sessions with a member of our staff. During these (virtual) meetings, students are taught about the American legal system and courtroom procedures. Additionally, with the assistance of a Canadian mock trial coach, the Empire has prepared a guide to help Canadian schools adapt seamlessly to an Empire competition. You can download it below.
