Where are you now?
I’m currently doing my final year of high school and aiming to progress to a career in legal journalism.
How, if at all, did the Empire help you get there?
Empire showed me what I truly want to do with my life: standing up, presenting perspectives and seeing fair outcomes in society. Empire gave me refined confidence and a stronger voice, which I use with precision to deliver all conversations thenceforth.
What’s your favourite Empire moment?
My favourite Empire moment is the opening ceremony. The vibe during the pin exchange is remarkable; meeting so many people from other countries, talking about our common interest of mock trial, sharing countries’ colloquial terms, and continually saying G’day created a second to none, incomparable night.
Closely following this was round 4 of the competition; this one is a personal favourite moment from all of New York. At the completion of our final round, we had no knowledge of the results but we didn’t care; as a team, we’d come so far and our team was at our closest at the end of this round. We shared our favourite moments; our coaches shared their proudest moments. It was the all-round highlight of New York.
But it wouldn’t be “the New York experience” without some touring. The opportunities in NYC are endless; I experienced:
- Empire State Building
- Museum of Natural History
- Times Square
- Statue of Liberty
- Hudson River Cruise
- Rode a bike through Central Park at midday
- Taking the subway everywhere!
- Eating in a sandwich bar in Times Square
- Broadway shows: seeing Wicked: The Musical and STOMP
- Diner breakfasts every morning
Seeing your team together at the end of all the work, the triumphs, the case and touring New York makes Empire the most rewarding team experience I’ve had by a long way.
How would you describe the Empire to someone that has never been?
Empire is a renowned International Mock Trial competition gathering all of the mock trial enthusiasts from around the world with all degrees of success. Empire takes a university mock trial case and revitalises it to suit the academics of high school-aged legal enthusiasts and made-for-the -courtroom public speakers. In addition to the case, the opportunity to interact, celebrate and share events, dance floors, karaoke and so many other fun activities, will surpass the atmosphere of anything you’ve been to before, and revolutionise your international relations, leaving you with friends from all around the world and memories that are second to none
