Where are you now?
Durham University, Durham, County Durham, England, United Kingdom (Final Year of my LLB Hons- undergraduate law degree).
How, if at all, did the Empire help you get there?
Empire developed my level of initiative, critical thinking and teamwork within a pressure environment, in contributing towards a pioneering global event. In turn, this conveyed my unfettered enthusiasm for unprecedented challenges outside of the classroom, and my University application of course benefited from this thoroughly unique experience.
If you’ve come back as a volunteer, why have you stay involved with the Empire family?
I was eager to assist Empire VI’s competitors in gaining as much as I did from my courtroom endeavours at Empire V. In addition, I sought to learn from the other staff members with regards to how they host and promote Mock Trial competition within the USA, as I have recently begun to initiate for similar opportunities to be made possible here in the United Kingdom.
How would you describe the Empire to someone that has never been?
Simply unparalleled! Empire Mock Trial delivers a beautifully polished global competition, attracting a combination of the most promising and accomplished Mock Trial competitors from every corner of the earth, from Canada, to the United Kingdom, to South Korea. Competing in some of New York’s finest courtrooms, watched by some of the country’s top Judges, there is no greater stage on which to test your performance as the adrenaline rushes through your body. Building a wealth of friends from such diverse cultural backgrounds enhances the wonderful social element of the tournament, which offers spectacular sights of New York by way of the dinner cruise, or indeed the chance to explore one of the world’s most iconic cities with new faces!
