Nicholas Cotter
Case Committee Co-Chair
Nicholas Cotter is an attorney at the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office in Oakland, California. He earned his bachelor’s degrees in Neurobiology and Music from UC Berkeley, his Master of Music degree from CSU Long Beach, and his J.D. from the UC Berkeley School of Law. Nick has been involved in mock trial for 10 years and has competed and coached at the high school, college, and law school levels. As a competitor, he earned recognition as the top California pre-trial defense attorney in high school, an All-American Attorney in college, and a semi-finalist and finalist at several national competitions in law school. As a coach, he has led teams to top finishes at the county, state, and national tournaments, including Gladiator and the AMTA national competition.
Nick joined the Empire Case Committee as a writer in 2020 then served as a co-chair for the 2021 season. He is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Empire’s educational mission by helping to develop cases that are fun, challenging, and topical for everyone in the Empire Family.
